Finals - Week 1 - 21/08/2022

Tracey Bowe - U13 Div 5 Team Manager

Tracey Bowe is a true champion of all things sports and footy. She has volunteered as team manager for the past 9 years. Yes, you heard right - 9 years!  During this time, she has gone above and beyond in her kindness, generosity and sincerity in managing her teams year in, year out, and again. She supported Derek Humphrey Smith at Auskick for the first year, then Matt Behan, U8 with Carl Steinfort and finally Kane Fetterplace and Luke Duffy with U13. Being team manager is, at the very least, a part time job which entails dedicating many hours to thinking, planning, organising, supporting and showing up to the games each and every week. Anyone that knows Tracey appreciates her kindness and grace. She is quietly competitive, strong as an ox, gentle, sensitive and supportive. Tracey also played footy for South Melbourne Women’s Team for 4 years and only was stopped due to a knee injury.  Tracey leaves Bloods Footy after a tenacious tenure and is moving to the country with her partner, John, and son, Nick. Tracey will be sorely missed by all of us. We sincerely thank you, Tracey Bowe, for your determination, strength and generous spirit. You! Are a legend!

Round 15 - 14/08/2022

Adrian Furby - U14 Div 5 Team Manager

This week’s volunteer of the week goes to Adrian Furby. Adrian has been with our club for many years. From Team Manager to Secretary to President and now Vice President. Adrian fearlessly led the club through 2 tough years of COVID - not an easy task. He’s the quiet achiever making sure our club runs smoothly in the background, and is an asset to our club. Adrian this year stepped up to be Team Manager for his son’s team. It was a rocky start, but Adrian, their coach and his team of volunteers now have them through to their first Grand Final. Thanks Adrian! Go Bloods! 🔴⚪️

Round 14 - 07/08/2022

BRADI OWENS - U10 GIRLS COACH

This weeks volunteer of the week goes to Bradi Owens. Bradi and her daughter Ginger joined the club last year with very little knowledge for the game. However, with low numbers to begin with and the need for a coach, Bradi put up her hand to take on the role. Each week she brings with her tremendous positivity for the girls and the game. She supports and encourages each and everyone of them. It has been a pleasure to see a Mum step up and take on a coaching role - here is to more. Thank you Bradi!

Round 13 - 31/07/2022

Andrew Nankervis - U14 Girls Assistant Coach

Andrew Nankervis along with his wife Carolyn and children have been part of the Bloods family for many years.  Andrew spent previous years coaching his son Nick’s team (U16), but this season stepped up to coach his daughter Hannah's U14 team. Andrew spent all of pre season coaching the girls when Hannah wasn't even training.  He has been such a positive guide to the girls and instilled confidence in their ability - they have come a long way.  With Andrew's calm manner and firm approach to junior footy, we are very lucky to have him.  Thanks Andrew for all that you do for our girls!

Round 12 - 24/07/2022

Jamie myers - U11 Mixed White Team Manager

Jamie has been an enthusiastic team manager now for many seasons. He is super well organised and efficient, and willing to share his knowledge and insights with other team managers who are new to the role. As well, Jamie is more than willing to put his hand up to help out, including “lending” his son to play in other teams that are short of players. With his can-do, no-fuss attitude and approach, Jamie is a deserved awardee of this weeks’ volunteer of the week. Thank you!

Round 11 - 17/07/2022

Justine Sheedy - Social media Extraordanaire and Bloody good Ball Organiser

This week's volunteer of the week goes to Justine Sheedy - long time Bloods family, social media extraordinaire and Bloody Good Ball organiser! Despite her son Hugo having a tough season with an ACL injury, the family shows up every single week to support the U16 boys, taking fabulous pictures and making sure our social media is filled with memorable moments from league footy season. Justine has increased our social media following by creating a fabulous profile that everyone enjoys. Justine has also put a huge amount of work into making sure this year's Bloody Good Ball is a spectacular event. Thank you Justine!!

Round 10 - 10/7/2022

The Muir Family - U11 Mixed Red Team Managers

The Muir family are the quintessential sports club members! Not only are Anna and Greg team managers of the U11 Mixed Red team, they are also stellar supporters of Jack's U13 Div 5 team. Greg steps into coach when the regular coach is away, Luke (U11) plays up when numbers in the older team are down and they are always ready to help out - whether as trainer, umpire escort or on a BBQ ... and Anna was a member of the Senior Womens' team not that long ago, too! Such a wonderful asset to our club and very deserving recipients of this award. Thank you Muir family!

Round 9 - 19/06/2022

NIEMI FAMILY - 3 GENERATIONS

Season 2022 brings The Niemi Family back to the Bloods, and we’re dedicating our Volunteer of the Week to them. While Zac has only started playing for U11 this year, his family connection to the Bloods goes back generations. Zac’s dad, Luke, and uncle, Jamie, played both junior and senior footy for South Melbourne Districts. His grandfather, Kari, also played juniors and seniors and was in part of the 1983 premiership team. Moreover, Maree Johnson, Zac’s grandmother, dedicated 20 years of service to the club and is a life member. What a fantastic story!  Welcome back Niemi Family and thanks for all that you’ve given to the Club!

Round 8 - 05/06/2022

Deb and DAve Cafferkey - U16 Girls Coach and Trainer

This week’s Volunteer of the Week goes to Deb and Dave Cafferkey. They’ve been an integral part of the club and instrumental in developing our girls program at South Melbourne. A dynamic duo, Dave coaches our U16 girls team and Deb acts as trainer most weekends. What is amazing is that their daughter Emma has been unable to make a number of matches due to school commitments, yet week in and week out they still turn up for every girl and family on that team - incredible effort and the club thanks you. Congratulations Caffs!

Round 7 - 29/05/2022

Jason Brown - Trainer Coordinator

This week’s Volunteer of the Week goes to Jason Brown, who’s brought renewed focus to keeping our players, officials and spectators safe and well on and off the field. Jason has worked hard to ensure all our teams have a trainer and our trainers are adequately trained and well equipped to deliver the best care to our kids on match day. As well, Jason has developed new systems for managing injured players and their transition back into training and matches. This is a well deserved award to a quiet achiever. Congratulations Jason!

Round 6 - 22/05/2022

Andy Butler & Carl Steinfort - U9 RED & WHITE COACHES

Andy coaches the U9 Reds and Carl coaches the U9 Whites. We’ve been super impressed by the way Carl and Andy have collaborated to accommodate their growing teams. They’ve embraced the challenge and really made it work for our young players. Well done - we hope you enjoy your Railway Club Hotel experience!

Round 5 - 15/05/2022

Nicola ManN - U10 White Trainer

The Mann family are new to the club and Nicola has brought a beautiful energy and “can do” attitude. She has taken on the role of trainer for U10 white and has amazing commitment - she even came to support the team as trainer when her son Max was in isolation. Her dedication and support for the team is something we want to recognise and demonstrate our enormous appreciation for.

Round 3 - 01/05/2022

Beth Evans - U16 Girls TEAM MANAGER

For many years, Beth and her family have been part of the Bloods. As team manager for her daughters for the past 3 years, Beth always goes above and beyond. Sadly, Beth tripped over a footy and broke her wrist while team managing last week’s match. Thanks Beth for all that you do. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the interchange bench soon.

Round 2 - 24/04/2022

Katie Ryan - U10 MIXED WHITE TEAM MANAGER

The Volunteer of the Week for Round 2 is awarded to Katie Ryan. Katie has stepped up, rolled her sleeves up and put her hand up to get the U10 mixed white team running like a well oiled machine.

Katie’s enthusiasm is infectious and common sense approach is amazing. Thanks Katie!

Round 1 - 10/04/2022

Kylie Peasley - U12 Div 3 Team Manager

Our very first volunteer of the week award in season 2022 goes to Kylie Peasley.

It wasn’t easy taking up the role of team manager 7 days from first bounce, having never been a team manager before and for a team yet to appoint a coach. Unfazed, unflappable and unstoppable, Kylie has gone from novice to expert in less than a week. Not only has her Dymo label maker been in overdrive, but Kylie has managed to digest the Team Manager Encyclopedia in record time.

We’re now learning from Kylie and are super impressed by the processes and procedures. Well done, Kylie - those U12s are lucky to have you!
